Winter Flowers

There’s not much flora found in Maine winters – everything covered in snow!  But, even under the snow the hellebore sometimes bloom.  On a sunny winter’s day, when the snow is soft enough, I can carefully dig down and lift out the delicate flowers.  They must be carefully acclimated before coming inside to grace my table though.

This ice skate bouquet has cinnamon fern and winterberry – gathered on my walk yesterday.  (I just need to add some white gouache to highlight the berries.)
