A Handful of Tulips

Does anyone bring flowers to their neighbors on the first of May?  It was something we did when I was a little girl.  We’d fill a little basket with flowers, ring the doorbell and leave them on the steps, then run and hide around the corner of their house to watch them open the door and find the flowers ; )

It was symbolic to me that the long, cold, lonely days of winter were over – sunshine and warm breezes were returning and we could go out for picnics and play with our friends again!  So, in anticipation of the first of May, I painted this bouquet of tulips ; )
