Creating a Repeat Pattern

I finished my blue florals and made a repeat pattern with them – I use a free editing software called GIMP.  I scan the original painting as a TIFF so that I can manipulate size/cropping/etc. then I create the pattern frame by frame, adding in extra little ants ; )  Here’s what the program looks like:

After I’m done making little adjustments, I save the finished pattern as a JPG.  Now the pattern can be applied to all sorts of products in my Society6 shop.  (I hope to make it available on Spoonflower as fabric too!)

Painting Blue Florals

I tried to capture a few *action* shots of my painting – I’m working on a floral pattern in blues on this cold rainy day.  I have violas, bell fowers, lobelia, larkspur, and a himalayan poppy.  I’m planning to make a repeat pattern out of this when I’m done ; )

Spring Hellebore

Spring!  I can paint all the greens of spring on paper while outside we are still deep in the snows of winter!  I have been illustrating hellebore so often lately…anticipating when it will finally be blooming in my own garden – whenever the snow finally melts!!

Painting two of my favorite spring flowers!  Snowdrops and hellebore – two plants that will naturalize in a woodland garden.  I’m so ready for spring – but it’s been in the low teens all week and about a foot of snow is supposed to come mid-week!

There were rainbows on my table this afternoon!  I’ve been drawing ideas here when I get some time, but I haven’t had any time for painting lately.  I little stack of drawings has started to pile up on my desk – waiting for paint ; )

Look at what came in the mail this week!  My own illustrated greeting cards!  I’m so pleased with how they came out and so excited to be able to use them ; )  There’s one for every occasion: boy’s birthday, girl’s birthday, thank you, get well soon, love/gift, and “Hello”- for any time you need one!
